D&J’s Sports Bar & Grill is now Wolfgram Sports Bar & Grill — and they’ve made an even bigger change than their name: they’ve moved to a larger location rich with history in Watertown. Wolfgram’s is now situated at the corner of Third and Main Streets, offering ample space for fun and games alongside their cocktails and food. My girlfriends and I decided to check it out recently, and had the best time. We were treated to great drinks, incredible hospitality, and the best onion rings I have ever tasted. Here’s why you need to go.

Food and Drink

I don’t really have a go-to drink, and I usually rely on a cocktail menu. While Wolfgram’s doesn’t have a list to browse, they can make just about anything. I don’t know where the thought came from, but I asked for a blackberry brandy old fashioned – and wow. Why isn’t this everyone’s drink of choice? The owner chatted with me about changes he’s made to the location, all while muddling my perfect drink.

My friends made their choices, and we chose a quiet spot to chit chat and people watch by the front window (which is actually a glass garage door that was closed at the time).

We chatted until hunger struck, and then grabbed a menu. I already knew the business was known for their broasted chicken, but we didn’t have a big enough appetite for a meal, so we opted for the deep fried cauliflower and the onion rings. Both were amazing, but those onion rings need a special mention. TRY THEM. The owner later told us that each order is breaded by hand, using their special recipe. You can tell.

Coincidentally, I knew another group at the bar, and asked about the food they had ordered. They were enjoying the famous chicken, fries, and loaded tots. Of course they raved about it, and I had to take some pics. I’m coming back soon for that chicken.

Atmosphere

Many years ago, the location was a popular nightclub, with a very dark aesthetic. When I walked in, I was surprised to see how bright the interior was. It felt like a sports bar, but also had a swanky vibe with cool seating arrangements. I told the owner that I would be comfortable bringing my teenaged kids in to catch a game and eat some good food. He said that is exactly what he’s hoping for –  a family-friendly gathering spot during the daytime hours, but more appropriate for adults at night. He’s exploring opening early enough to serve lunch.

My friends and I were there to catch up, but there’s plenty more to do than just sip your drink. Pool tables, pop-a-shot basketball, arcade-style games, and a long line of dart boards, which are also used for league play.

Live music is already planned for select dates, and soon karaoke will be scheduled regularly.

Staff

We received service that was concierge-level. What’s even more impressive, is they had been a participant on the Whiskey & Wine Walk earlier that day, and were probably exhausted after serving 300 patrons. It sure didn’t show. We had no problem walking to the bar for a refill, but we never had to because we were given so much attention. It was very impressive.
