When I heard the Watertown Country Club would be creating a new menu and opening to the public for dinner service on select nights of the week, I got excited. I’ve been waiting for an establishment that’s equally fitting for a relaxed dinner or a celebratory night out. A spot with linen tablecloths and napkins, but no formal dress code. You won’t be out of place in nice jeans or in dress clothes. It’s cozy, comfy, and gives “stay awhile” vibes – and stay awhile we did on our recent visit.
Food
Reservations aren’t required, but preferred. Our party of four had a reservation for their first dinner seating at 5 p.m. We started at the bar and ordered drinks, then chatted amongst ourselves and some familiar faces. I don’t think I saw a face I didn’t recognize at the Country Club on this Friday night. I ordered an old fashioned, and was really impressed. I’m no connoisseur, but in my opinion, it was perfect.
When we were seated, fresh rolls were brought to the table. It was a nice touch.
Our dining companions ordered the breaded mushrooms. I was happy to try them. They were great and came with a garlic aioli dipping sauce.
I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and chose a creamy vegetable soup over a salad, and risotto for my side. It also came with the vegetable of the day, which was green beans. I think it says a lot when the side vegetable is so flavorful that you’re excited to take home the leftovers. That’s exactly what happened here. I don’t know what the seasoning was, but it was a highlight. The chicken was absolutely incredible. I had plenty to take home, and the leftovers were just as good.
We dined on a Friday in Wisconsin, so naturally someone in our group ordered a fish fry. My husband chose the Fisherman’s Platter, which included an impressive portion of fish, a choice of potato and coleslaw. I don’t know how he did it, but he polished it off. That’s when you know it’s good. The platter is only available on Fridays.
Another in our group chose Baked Cod with Crab Stuffing. He really enjoyed his choice and said it was more filling than he expected. None of us were going home hungry.
Our fourth diner chose a Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich is also available smoky. She raved about her choice, and made sure to tell the staff how much she enjoyed it. I can understand why with spicy mayo, pickles, pepper jack cheese, crispy jalapenos, lettuce, and hot honey on a brioche bun. I’m sold. I’ll be back to try this one.
Atmosphere
We dined earlier this month, so the club was all decked out for the holidays. It felt so cozy, and I truly believe the atmosphere contributed to how long we stayed and how much we enjoyed ourselves.
Service
Service was wonderful. We received the right amount of attention and check-ins, our meals were spot-on per our orders, and conversations included a smile. The same goes for service at the bar and with the hostess. We’re excited to plan a second visit soon.
