Guest blogger, Jody Purtell takes us through a memorable evening at the iconic Elias Inn Supper Club. Elias Inn has been an establishment in Watertown since 1987, and was purchased by the Sobels in recent years. In listening to customer suggestions, they recently made some dramatic changes to take Elias Inn back to “the place to be” in Watertown on a Friday night. Jody wanted to check it out for herself. Let’s tag along!

The Atmosphere
My friends and I recently enjoyed visiting the Elias Inn Supper Club, a charming, family-owned establishment located in the heart of Watertown, WI. It was a warm Friday evening, and the air was filled with the scent of freshly fried fish. It was buzzing with excitement as locals and visitors alike flocked to the restaurant for their famous Friday Night Fish Fry. We spent the first part of the evening in the cozy bar area, sipping on delicious old fashioneds and having lively debates about what makes Wisconsin’s old fashioneds stand out from the rest of the country. The historic woodwork and charming taxidermy touches made for a unique and inviting atmosphere, and we felt right at home thanks to the warm welcome from Lydia, the owner, and bartender.

When our table was ready, we walked into the lively dining area. The sound of laughter filled the air as the wait staff and kitchen team worked their magic in the room and kitchen. The family-style dining was perfect for catching up and reminiscing about old times, and the Friday Fish Fry was precisely what we were craving.

The Food
We loved the relish tray with German and American potato salad, rye bread, baked beans, and coleslaw. The meal was accompanied by a side of tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon, adding freshness to the dish. To top it off, all-you-can-eat Baked Cod, Fried Cod, and Fried Chicken were included! The fish and chicken were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The coleslaw and potato salads were bursting with flavor. The other sides hit the spot and were enjoyed by all. And look at those fries! Golden brown and hot out of the fryer. We enjoyed this fantastic meal and drinks for less than $30.

The Service
As we finished up, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the Sobels and their dedication to their craft. Their hospitality and delicious meals were a testament to the power of small-town eateries and the importance of community as we walked out of the restaurant. The Friday Night Fish Fry had been a delight, and I knew I had found a new favorite spot in town. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
