When I’m out and about in neighboring communities, I’m always talking about Watertown. I tend to ask non-residents what they know about Watertown and what they do when they come to town. Time and again the conversation turns to Sake House. They might come for another purpose and fit in a trip to Sake House, or they might be coming just for a taste of that sushi. As a fan myself, I understand the appeal.
ATMOSPHERE
Sake House is casual and comfortable. A row of booths line the longest wall of the restaurant, with a few tables available for larger groups in the center of the room. The opposing wall is the hibachi/sushi preparation area, where guests can sit at a low countertop and watch the magic happen while you dine. In an effort not to be rude to other diners, I did not photograph the interior. On a recent lunch date, the place was packed!
FOOD
I am a sushi fan. I am an even bigger Sake House sushi fan. After years of working my way through the sushi roll menu, I landed on some favorites. Shrimp tempura roll, vegetable tempura roll, and spicy crab roll. What should be cold is cold, and what should be hot is hot. It’s obvious the food is made with fresh ingredients. All rolls come with a generous portion of wasabi and ginger. Their sushi lunch comes with a side. I switch between clear soup and salad with ginger dressing. Dinner options come with both. I love the presentation of sushi, and it’s different for every type of roll you order. I’ve also ordered a shrimp teriyaki bento box, and it was delicious.

My husband has only ordered one dish in all the years Sake House has been in Watertown – The Spicy Roll Combo. This includes a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy crab roll. He also opts for the clear soup or salad. Miso soup is also an option.

Delicious ginger dressing on the salad.

Soy sauce for dipping.
We usually stick to water when we order sushi, but I’ve tried their plum wine and it was a treat!
SERVICE
Service is great at Sake House. In the small restaurant, it’s easy to see how hard the waitstaff is working. One or two servers are responsible for the dine-in customers and the large volume of takeout orders. Delivery is not available, but carryout is always an option.

Years ago, we met with extended family for a birthday celebration at Sake House, and we were amazed at the incredible service. The staff made a big show of the birthday, and made sure the young kids in our group were occupied.
Sake House is a Watertown win! Stay tuned as we continue our Taste Tour through the city. Next up – Chandler House Bakery!
