Maria’s Mexican Restaurant is well known and well-loved for its extensive menu and colorful decor. Their authentic Mexican cuisine quickly turns first-timers into regulars. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on great food and a mood boost. Good food and good vibes is exactly what my girlfriend group was looking for. I didn’t plan to write a blog about our dinner, but it was just too good not to.
Atmosphere
It’s impossible to talk about Maria’s without recognizing the vibrant decor. It is an EXPLOSION of color. Even their chairs are worthy of conversation. The restaurant provides booths, tables, and a bar. While my photo shows an empty table in the background, it didn’t stay empty for long. The restaurant was full on the Friday night we visited.
Food
Maria’s menu is going to take some time to browse. No problem. Snack on the complimentary chips and salsa while you peruse. Both the chips and salsa were very well seasoned. Nothing bland going on here. The next item to tackle is the drink menu. All the flavors of margaritas you could come up with, plus great specialty drink options. We went tropical. One friend chose a blended peach margarita, another the “blue motorcycle,” and I chose a strawberry margarita on the rocks. It was exactly what I was looking for and noticeably included fresh strawberries.
The food menu is impressive. Page after page of authentic cuisine. I chose a taco salad and asked if they could substitute shrimp (have you been reading my reviews? No surprises here). They were happy to oblige and I was happy to enjoy this amazing salad. And enjoy it I did. The portion of shrimp was very generous, as was the guacamole. What more do I have to say? I will be back for that salad.
Another friend chose the Fajitas combo, which included chicken, steak, and shrimp. It also came with a generous plate of rice, beans, and salad. She had plenty to take home to enjoy later. My other girlfriends enjoyed the chips and salsa and a small side for their meal.
Looking back at my photos, I realize Maria’s food is just as colorful as the restaurant.
Service
Service was incredible. Gathering drink and food orders from gabby girlfriends is a skill! Every staff member that took care of us was just impeccable. Friendly, smiling, knowledgeable, and working hard as they took care of a restaurant full of patrons. Kudos!
Maria’s has a second location in Marshall, and a food truck that you can find at some of your favorite events, including Watertown Riverfest. At the time of publication, the restaurant is open seven days a week. Visit them online for hours and more!
