Tourism Grant Program
Effective January 1, 2023
Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of this program is to offer organizations financial support for Tourism related events as defined by Wisconsin Act 55: Tourism Promotion and Tourism Development that are significantly used by transient tourists and reasonably likely to generate paid overnight stays at more than one establishment where a tax may be imposed. Tourism promotion and development include: Marketing projects, including advertising media buys, creation and distribution of printed or electronic promotional tourist materials, or efforts to recruit conventions, sporting events, or motorcoach groups.
Eligibility Requirements
All organizations must operate in the Watertown Area.
Applications are processed and considered on a first come, first served basis. Preference is given to events that occur between November and May as efforts are focused on filling vacant hotel rooms
Grant terms
Organizations will submit a one-page narrative listing how the organization will use the grant to generate overnight stays in Watertown. The narrative should also describe how the event will impact other businesses like restaurants, gas stations and retail stores. Organizations are encouraged to make a presentation to the tourism commission on how funds will be used.
Grants may be awarded for one-half of eligible costs up to $1,000. Any exceptions will be considered by the tourism manager prior to application. The Watertown Tourism Commission has the authority to determine the level of funding for each application.
All approved funds will be reimbursed after receipts are submitted to Watertown Tourism. No reimbursements will be made without the proper receipt submissions.
The Watertown Tourism commission must be recognized in appropriate signage and advertising. The Watertown Tourism Commission encourages a partnership between organization and Commission in marketing the available sponsorships and the event itself to the Watertown business community.
